Notre Dame of Kabacan History

In 1956, the Notre Dame of Kabacan was founded in answer to the clamor and wishes of the people for a Christian Catholic Education. To the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, it was part of their mission to establish schools and to educate the young. The kind Bishop Gerard Mongeau, OMI, DD then the bishop of Cotabato saw the need of Catholic Education for the children of this community. Thus, in January 24, 1956, Notre Dame of Kabacan was born

The first site was located along the National Highway of Barangay Osias.  A Year after the operation, it was transferred to its present site (at the back of Catholic Church). From 1956-1960, the school was under the administrative supervision of Fr. Robert Callahan, OMI as its first director. In 1960, the OBLATES OF NOTRE DAME sisters (OND) took over with Sr. Soledad Amigable, and OND sister then, as its first Directress-Principal.

While the NDK aims for quality education, it also weathered all kind of difficulties but also with enumerable successes. Hence, it was affirmed when NDK won Championship in NDEA Inter-Area Academic Contest in the SY 1986-1987 and 1991-1992.

The Notre Dame of Kabacan, as an OND school, strives to bring hope and joy to the people by facilitating a kind of education which is geared towards transformation of self and society. It is guided by the Vision-Mission wherein NDK became a Community of Faith, Community of Friends, Community of Disciples and Mary-like Community.

On June 1990, Kindergarten was opened under the leadership of Sr. Fe F. Segundo, OND and on June 1991, with Sr. Marissa Leticia Borgonia, OND as the Directress-Principal, a ladderized Elementary Education was offered in answer to the petition filed by the parents asking the school administration to offer elementary education. In the same year, September 1991, Community Extension Learning Center (CELC) was opened in Liton, Kabacan, located about three (3) kilometers from the town.

With the growth of enrolment and the limited space for school activities, the School Physical Plant has developed. Thus, the Holy Childhood Center in 1992, Grade School Department building in 1996 and the Pavilion in 2004 were joint projects of the Academic Community: Parents, Teachers Association, Students Alumni, NDK Staff and administrators and the Community. The school is upgraded with good facilities like Science and Speech Laboratories and Computer Center.

As the NDK Academic Community is zealously moving towards its Educational Credo: “Development of all members of the Academic Community to become transforming member of the Society.” The development of the curriculum was taking its place. Hence making Religion the Core of the curriculum and at the same time Values Education had been continuously offered in the school.

Since Inter-Religious Dialogue (IRD) is part of the OND Ministry, Islamic subject for the Muslim has been offered, too. The school becomes a venue for the continuing search for truth as the school motto which is inscripted in the logo: TRUTH CONQUERS ALL.
